Report from Lead Coach -Tim

First Tour for the U9s -travelled to Bognor with the U10s &U11s for what turned out to be a highly successful and fun weekend of rugby. This was also the first competitive tournament for the boys, and they really rose to the challenge winning all their games on both days and scoring the highest overall score for the 2 days in the U9s.
On day 1 we had 3 great games against Old Elthamians, ,Ealing 2 and Harpenden. The boys showed great determination and played well as a team with some great individual tackling performances. What really set us apart was our ability to run with the ball and score, with 11 trys in one game alone, and a great last minute try against a strong Harpenden team to seal the victory.

Our results on the first day meant that we qualified for the top groups and after an evening fun of Butlins they were ready for the early start on day 2.
The day 2 games were obviously harder in the top group with some tough opposition from Ironside Chieftains, Ealing 3 and Ironside Challengers. We were evenly matched in the first 2 games going behind at times, but importantly the boys never gave up.
With some fearless tackling, great running with the ball, great support and offloading, even a lovely interception in the dying seconds to win against Ealing, they played with a skill and conviction that was ultimately unmatched on the day. I think all the parents and coaches where rightly proud of the team who deserved every victory!
We are lucky to have a fair amount of talent to draw upon, but what really impresses is the team spirit, cooperation and determination displayed by the boys, not only by the players on tour but by the whole U9s squad.
Many thanks to our shirt sponsor for the tour, Raise. Also, to the coaches for their hard work, the parents for their support and especially to Gill Carter for organising the trip!
