Following an intensive 4 weeks of introduction to contact coaching at TJs, 36 kids from the ever-growing TJs U9’s squad embarked on their first contact festival.

The 3 teams fared well in all their groups. It was great to see the kids’ confidence grow throughout the festival as the kids got used to the new rules and learned off one other as well as by what their opposition was doing, eg rush defence and pairing up to take the ball carrier into touch!

It was lovely to see different kids excel, with some enjoying the direct approach whereas others looked for space out wide and using their pace. One could see glimpses of how the forwards versus backs components of the game will evolve in the near future.

A great learning experience for the kids and coaches as we could see how TJs benchmarked against other teams, what our strengths are and the areas we need to focus on and improve.
